The Things That Used To Be Published

If I remember correctly, I started writing stories, poems, etc. way back in 2007–2008. At the time, I was still living at home with my parents in Flatbush, Brooklyn, and worked at Starbucks on the Upper West Side before moving over to FedEx Office (Kinko's back then). That was roughly an hour to an hour and 15 minutes of commuting each way. If there’s one thing you know about riding the MTA, it is to never fall asleep. I have seen people get robbed while asleep on the train, waking up to find their iPod, iPhone, or MP3 player gone, with the culprit already off the train. And so, I would use that time to write (type, really) these random thoughts and pure emotions.

During that timeframe, I may have written 30+ pieces. They often centered on ideas about love, relationships, and women. No clue what sparked those sentiments at the time. They used to live on a Blogger profile I had back then, migrated to this personal site for a time, but I had taken them down through various iterations of my site. As I have gone through a recent update of the site, I want to bring them back, as I have been very expressive throughout the last 11 months of unemployment.

In 2007–2008, I was around 20–21 years old, and maybe the idea of partnership was something I was deeply contemplating during those developing years. It will be interesting to revisit these pieces to see where my head was at back then, be in awe of how some of those pieces hold up, and also cringe at some of them now. I know some of these pieces were inspired by people in my life at the time, and so, in some cases, I will try to give as much additional context as possible.

I was just telling someone how communication and expression in their purest forms mean so much to me and are part of the reason why I am sharing these pieces back with the world. And I am sure it will be interesting to see not only how I have evolved creatively but also how my life experiences may have changed my viewpoints on these ideas and topics.

As I mentioned, they may feature additional context, some minor edits, or even more expansive thoughts on how I view the concepts now. I hope that people just appreciate where I was and where I am. I will be posting them periodically, though I’m not sure if I will designate a day or just post them sporadically.
